Story: Alaea (pronounced Ah-la-eh-ah) Hawaiian Sea Salt is unrefined, leaving it mineral rich, especially in iron-oxide, which gives it its distinctly beautiful ochre color. Traditionally used to cleanse and purify homes, boats and tools, it is today used to bring color and flavor to dishes of all kinds.
Flavor: Alaea Hawaiian Sea Salt has a strong mineral salinity, sharper and more assertive than the French Sea Salts.
Use: Use sparingly on seafood dishes, and more abundantly on fire-roasted meats. Beautiful on any light colored food that allows the deep ochre color to stand out. For an interesting dynamic, sprinkle on to melon, peaches or, to keep it Hawaiian, freshly cut pineapple.
